UNSPEAKABLE CRUELTY (SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) OFFICIAL BRITISH PARLIAMENTARY PAPER. The Trial of Certain Persons at Sierra Leone, for the Murder of a Slave Girl at Onitsha on the River Niger. 52 long folio pages, stitched. London: Eyre, 1882

Additional Details

The case of an unspeakable act of sadism against the person of Ame, a fourteen year old slave girl ending (mercifully) in her death. Two other men were charged, one of them for the murder of Lydia, another young girl. Slavery, of course is inherently cruel. Removing someone's freedom and dignity, being able to do whatever you wish with them, is slavery by definition. But this case was so egregious that the British government arrested and tried the girl's owner for murder.
