A fine representation of a classic image, often seen in anti-slavery chapbooks, such as the "Poor Negro," "The Negro Servant," "The Dairyman's Daughter," etc. Originating with Leigh Hunt (1772-1827) and his "Annals of the Poor" and taken up by the abolitionists in numerous variations.
