Additional Details

Parker Pillsbury (1809-1998), minister and advocate for abolition and women's rights. The 1896 letter is written on the back of a letter from fellow abolitionist Oliver Johnson wishing Pillsbury a happy birthday and discussing the old anti-slavery struggle. The second letter to an unidentified recipient too speaks of the struggle and mentions meetings at "Battle Creek." The latter was the home of Sojourner Truth for many years.
