(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) RACIST PARODY SONG SHEET. Good Bye John, or Philadelpy Gals. Woodcut head-piece of a dandy smoking a cheroot, 9-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches, paper toned, darker to one side with some wear. Np, circa 1840's-1850's

Additional Details

An uncommon and rather racist song-sheet, reminiscent of the visual caricature series 'Life in Philadelphia' done by the houses of Clay and Treagar. The lyrics are decidedly a parody of how 'easy' Philadelphia women are. 'I'se from the state of Arkansas/O hear the sights that can be saw/But nought make de lips of my bosun swell/Like a peep at de Philadelpy Gals. Philadelpy Gals pretty faces/ Dressed to death and trimm'd with laces/ankles small and waist so slender/Ah Ah Ah good bye John.' no copies located by oclc or lcp afro Americana.
