Additional Details

This sale took place just north of Kansas City. The estate of James L. Hickman sold 9 named slaves, aged 5 to 70 years of age, "all likely and under good character." How can a representative of an allegedly superior race be unable to spell "slave"? The typographer also set "eatate" to type instead of "estate." None traced at auction or in OCLC.
