Additional Details

Theodore Tilton (1835-1907) was a prominent white abolitionist from New York, then working as Henry Ward Beecher's assistant. This inscription was written in somebody's autograph album six days after the Emancipation Proclamation: "Thank God and Abraham Lincoln for the Decree of Freedom, emancipating 3,000,000 slaves. A health to William Lloyd Garrison!"
