A very detailed appraisal of virtually everything the late Maria Hogan owned, from her cattle to her carpets: including a rather large number of slaves. Most of the adults were valued at $500 to $700; while the children, (Almost 20 of them), mostly described as "small boy" or "small girl," were valued at $100 to $150. Three old men, "Nace," "Ike," and "Jim" were valued at $50.00, $100.00 and $1.00 ---one dollar (!), respectively. One can only wonder what the fate of old Jim might have been.
