(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--LINCOLN, ABRAHAM.) New York Herald. April 16, 1865. Our Loss. The Great National Calamity. Death of the President. Elephant folio sheet, folded to form 8 folio pages, uncut; some wear at the edges; creases and some short closed tears where folded. New York, 1865

Additional Details

Issue devoted to Lincoln's assassination and the swearing in of Andrew Johnson. Article indicating that 'The Policy of Mr. Lincoln to be the Policy of Mr. Johnson," something which of course was not true. Johnson's policies, solidly pro-South, were diametrically opposed to those of Lincoln. Johnson's vetoes of Reconstruction Acts passed by the Congress eventually led to his impeachment.
