Additional Details

a very scarce piece of abolitionist music, bearing a beautifully engraved cover showing a train with an 'Emancipation car' headed for a station. All around it are well-dressed gentlemen. The train flies standards that bear the names of noted abolitionist newspapers, The Herald of Freedom, the American Standard, etc; while the wheels of the train say 'Liberator,' etc. This work was composed by Jesse Hutchinson of the noted singing group, The Hutchinson Family Singers. The Hutchinsons were a family singing group who became the most popular American entertainers of the 1840s. The group sang in four-part harmony, with a repertoire of political, social, comic, sentimental and dramatic works, and are considered by many to be the first uniquely American popular music performers.
