Additional Details

first and only edition (until recently) of this highly unusual slave narrative, printed in phonetics. A biographical sketch of Du Bois with a key to the reading of the phonetic version of her life precedes the actual narrative. Larison, who had an institute where phonetics was taught, was the author of several other short works, similarly printed in phonetics. An excellent copy of a book that when it turns up is usually in bad condition, due to a binder's error.
