a rare and important group of bills, and resolutions regarding the Dred Scott case, the fugitive slave act and the issue of slavery in general. Sixteen are basically anti-slavery, while one, from March 12, 1844 is a pro-slavery bill brought before the Assembly, to the effect that Congress shall have no power under the Constitution to dictate whether or not a state shall by slave or free. The present group of acts and resolutions address some of the most significant legal issues regarding slavery as it was officially treated by New York State. in many cases, only one or two copies of these documents are recorded by oclc.
