Additional Details

Only one other copy of Volume 1, Number 11 has come to auction. That copy was sold by Swann Galleries in 2011 for $1100. The 13th Amendement is printed on the front page of this issue, but it contains additional articles relating to the amendment's passge. The most notable is Laura Haviland's account of Sojourner Truth being injured while being forcibly removed from a Washington, D.C. street-car. The legal case which resulted from the incident was won by the plaintiff and Washington street-cars were subsequently desegregated.
