(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION--SLAVE NARRATIVES.) WILLIAMSON, MONROE. Monroe Williamson Sr., The Life History of the Uneducated Author Lived under bondage---a Slave 12 years, Gives incidents of his life up to the present day, Dec 30, 1931 * [together with] a "Real Photo Post Card" of Williamson. 8 pages. Small 12mo, original printed wrappers with new staples added. Augusta, GA: Bain Bros.,
This little narrative was written and printed for family members, and is accompanied by a crudely made photo post card of the author. Both were together in an envelope marked "My Father [sic] History" when obtained by the present owner. The narrative is unrecorded and we could find no record of sale for it in the last 30 years either. Monroe Williamson Sr. was born a slave on Beech Island, South Carolina on March 1, 1853. Many of his paragraphs begin "My dear children," possibly grandchildren given his age of 79 at the time this was written.
