Additional Details

A fine example of a scarce image. Henson (1789-1883), who was said to be the model for Stowe's 'Uncle Tom,' was in fact anything but the passive stereotype that Tom has come to represent. He was an active abolitionist and lectured both here and abroad. He wrote an autobiography 'Truth Stranger than Fiction.'
