Additional Details

A detailed accounting listing sugar and rum as expected, but also detailing the purchase of cedar planking to re-deck the ship as well and sundries and provisions. Dordin must have purchased the items listed with money collected from the sale of slaves. The rum purchased was more than 20,000 pounds sterling.
Dordin was a notorious slaver who frequently worked for the Vernons, who traded in slaves. See Swann sale 1888, lot 11, for a long letter from Vernon Jr. to his father regarding the sale of slaves - Dordin is mentioned in that letter.l
