Thomas leaves his son, "one bed and bedstead with all its furniture, Also his choice out of three of my Negro boys, viz. Andreas, Ephraim and Joe." He also leaves 3 slaves to his son Cornelius. In the will of Zacharias, he leaves "a Negro wench named Nan" to his sister-in-law. Slavery was common in upstate New York.
Sojourner Truth was raised on a farm in Orange County.
