A fascinating album containing 50 photographs by B. W. Caney of Durban, with approximately 32 images of native life, including Zulu tribespeople in their villages, working on plantations and cotton fields, depictions of traditional and Christian weddings, and powerful portraits of families and women posing singly and in groups as well as miscellaneous topographic and city scenes, including views of the port of Natal and street scenes in Durban. Albumen prints, 6x8 inches (15.2x20.3 cm.), several with Caney's credit and caption in the plate; mounted recto/verso, with handwritten penciled captions below the images.
