Additional Details

These plates are much larger than the actual Newsweek covers, and were presumably used for promotional point-of-sale posters. While most high-volume letterpress printing was done with cylinders, these flat plates would have been more economical for smaller jobs. The 7 July cover depicts the earth from the moon, and is subtitled "The Moon Age. A Special Section: How we got there, where we're going." The 28 July cover shows an astronaut from the moon landing--an image which would have required no explanation.
