Most signatures are on approximately 2 x 3-inch cards, and are captioned in album to indicate the signer's rank. A card signed simply "Theodore Roosevelt" is included as colonel of the Rough Riders, and Grover Cleveland signed a card on 9 January 1899 as ex-president. Other highlights include Major Generals William Shafter (as commander of forces in Cuba), Wesley Merritt (as commander of forces in the Philippines), Leonard Wood, and Nelson Miles; arctic explorer Adolphus Greely as chief of the Signal Corps; and Secretary of War Elihu Root. Civil War general Daniel Sickles is included, though he was retired by 1898.
