Additional Details

Compiled by a Spanish naval artillery officer in Cuba on the eve of war, this volume includes pages on 38 American warships, each with a tinted lithograph, schematic profiles, and a table of specifications. The volume's introduction was written in September 1897, and it must have been published very early in 1898, before the explosion of the USS Maine triggered the Spanish-American War. It demonstrates that Spain was preparing for a war with the United States. A fine example of Cuban illustration and printing. Not in Palau; only 2 copies in OCLC, and none known at auction.
