Additional Details

Mr. Gridley's prize horse "will stand for covering Mares this season" for the price of six dollars. Last season he had "a full supply of Mares" due to his strong track record: "He has run with some of the swiftest Horses in America and always won the race." 18th-century American stud broadsides appear very infrequently on the market. The Library Company of Philadelphia has the largest collection, with 18 of the known 27 examples, although not this one. In their 2004 exhibit, they note that "Central Connecticut seems to have been the horse capital of Federal America, judging from the high proportion of stud posters that emanated from there." Not in ESTC, Evans, or WorldCat.
