Additional Details

Elaborate program "in commemoration of the victories won in recent years in rowing, base-ball, foot-ball, and other athletic contests," held at the fabled Delmonico's Restaurant. Yale had a strong baseball team during this period, but was embarrassingly dominant in football. Their 13-0 record in 1888 understates their superiority, as they did not allow a single point and won by a collective score of 694-0. Coach Walter Camp and rusher Alonzo Stagg are legends of early football; Stagg also pitched for the baseball team. The program features finely reproduced group shots of the football, baseball, and crew participants; a detailed summary of the Ivy League matches for each going back to 1880, a dinner menu, and a series of toasts, with amusing gilt vignettes.
