Issued as a prototype "Dummy No. 1" for the magazine which soon became Sports Illustrated. It represents the first printed draft of the popular magazine's format, content, and editorial style. It includes a full array of articles, advertisements (borrowed from the advertisers without payment), and illustrations, although occasionally an apology or a bit of filler text occupies some space. The first official issue of Sports Illustrated came months later, on 16 August 1954.
