Philadelphia Public Ledger, discussing Ruth's second appearance against a professional baseball team on page 16. He pitched for the minor league Baltimore Orioles in a spring training game against the defending world champion Philadelphia Athletics, and beat them 6-2 in a complete game. The headline reads "World's Champions Beaten by Orioles. School-boy Pitcher Proves Effective." "The Mackmen compiled a total of 13 base hits off the 19-year-old schoolboy, but could not make them produce runs, . . . Ruth proving master in the pinches." Philadelphia, 26 March 1914.

Boston Evening Transcript, discussing the controversial sale of Ruth to the Yankees, on page 20. The banner headline reads "New York Manager Says Ruth Has Signed New Contract." Although Ruth "declares he will play in no other city than Boston," the deal was in place, and the locals put on a brave face: "Remarkable unanimity of opinion that the Red Sox made a good deal in disposing of the home-run hitter. . . . Red Sox players doubtless will be pleased with the disposal of the incorrigible slugger, and team play should be more in evidence." Boston, 6 January 1920.

Dispatch News Service, single illustrated sheet headlined "Babe Ruth Making New Home Run Record." Punch holes in upper margin, embossed collector's stamp in lower corner. New York, 28 May 1926.

San Francisco Chronicle, including Sporting Green extra on Ruth's record-setting World Series game, illustrated and headlined "Ruth Smashes 3 Homers; Yankees Win" over a game account by Grantland Rice. San Francisco, 7 October 1926.
