Additional Details

Betty Irene Chapman (1930-2001) became the first African-American in professional women's ball in 1951 when she joined the Admiral Music Maids of the National Girls Baseball League. The league was a Chicago-based rival to the more well-known All American Girls Professional Baseball League. Chapman was a student at the Illinois State Normal College at the time. She remained with the team at least through September.
