Additional Details

Walter O'Malley, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, decided to move the team to greener pastures in Los Angeles for the 1958 season. The move was not officially announced until November 1957, but was widely anticipated and speculated upon by the Dodgers faithful through much of the 1957 season. The final game at Ebbets Field was poorly attended, with only 6,707 in attendance. However, at least one enterprising fan bought this ticket to preserve as a souvenir of one of baseball's most beloved teams. It was issued for the lower stand, section 8, row 5, seat 12--a good seat near the first base line between the usual stomping grounds of Roy Campanella and Gil Hodges. The New York Daily News called the game "one of the most poorly attended wakes in the history of baseball . . . and what most probably will be the last game at the Flatbush ballpark for all time." The Dodgers beat the Pirates 2-0.
