James Preston Lovette (1885-1970) was a Texas native who began boxing in 1904 after his move to Pueblo, CO. He used the ring name "Kid Texas," as it likely sounded more intimidating than Preston Lovette. He encountered only modest success, with 8 wins, 9 losses, and 6 draws in a career that continued through 1911 (according to boxrec.com). In addition to numerous newspaper clippings covering the Kid's career, the scrapbook contains 14 printed handbills and tickets for Kid Texas fights, and 18 photographs. A clipping on the final page describes him as "once the champion lightweight of the Rocky Mountain region and the gamest little fighter Colorado ever turned out."
