Additional Details

These posters, showing a male and a female athlete, evoke John Carlos and Tommie Smith, the two American sprinters who gave the Black Power salute in the 1968 Olympics.

Most of the white streaks in the background are part of the design. What appears to be a lightning bolt above the male figure is actually the result of a faint wrinkle on the glossy black surface. You might argue that, by sheer luck, it sort of improves the composition.

Jymie Productions was formed by Harlem photographer and film producer Jimmie Mannas in 1970.

We trace no other examples of these posters in OCLC or at auction.
