Additional Details

Anna Margrethe "Molla" Bjurstedt (1884-1959) was a tennis champion in her native Norway, winning a bronze medal for the nation in the 1912 Olympics. She came to the United States in 1914, won her first of 8 U.S. National championships in 1915, and became Molla Mallory after her 1919 marriage to a New York stockbroker. Known for her strong returns and relentless energy, she competed at the highest level until the age of 45, and has been selected for the International Tennis Hall of Fame. These photographs were all taken on the court while posing or in action; some show her ubiquitous Chinese good-luck pin.
