Additional Details

Originally surveyed by accomplished Australian sea captain Samuel Ashmore, the chart accurately depicts important ports along northwestern Sumatra's "Pepper Coast" from the port of Analabou (Arongan Lambalek) to Singkil. The chart features three inset maps and four inset coastal views, the largest focusing on the area around the island harbor of Touroumang (Troumon), the largest exporter of pepper in the region and Pulo Doua (Dooa Harbour), which Horsburgh considered "the best among the Northern pepper Ports."
