Additional Details

Written in a Creole language. According to Everett's manuscript prefatory note (written after 1849), "this book contains a harmony of the Gospels in the patois spoken by the negroes of Surinam," and the title translates to "The Story of our Master and Helper." However, according to an article on Creole languages in the 1851 Encyclopaedia Americana, the language is Papiamento, spoken on the islands of Aruba and Curaçao.
