a scarce early work by syzk. inscribed by mallet, and with five inscribed and signed postcards by szyk. All to Auguste Decour, the Parisian art dealer who gave Szyk his first solo exhibition in Paris. This frontispiece was the first occasion where Szyk used the medium of engraving as opposed to his usual political and historically-inspired color illustrations. ". . . this image shows the artist working in the contemporary modernistic style of Art-Deco, evident in the stylized abstraction and rhythmic curves used to depict the goddesses as well as their horses and chariot, the streamlined Greek temple, and the billowing cloud formations included in the illustration"--Ansell, Arthur Szyk: Artist, Jew, Pole (2004) p.37. Only one other copy recorded at the Library of Congress. The postcards reproduce five of Szyk's works from the Harry Glemby Collection in New York (David and Goliath, La Reine de Saba devant Salomon, Judith, Bar-Kochba, and Le Danseur Arabe); they are all Inscribed to Decour and Signed "en hommage affectueux. Paris, 1928."
