This unusual reproduction was acquired by the present owner in Baghdad in the middle of the 20th century. It features al-Idrisi's famous map of the then-known world, which he prepared for King Roger II of Sicily in 1154. There is a much more common reproduction in German from the early 20th century. The earliest known manuscript copies of the original map are also captioned in Arabic. (See BnF MS Arabe 2221).
