Additional Details

This proclamation by the governor of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas restricted the candidates in the forthcoming elections. Seguín, then serving as mayor of San Antonio de Béxar, forwarded this copy to the local government in Goliad, signing as "Juan Nep'no Seguín" and adding his rubric. Seguín would soon become a hero in the struggle for Texan independence, serving at the Alamo and San Jacinto and rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
