"The classic account of the retreat of the Mexicans through Texas after the battle of San Jacinto and a masterly defense by Filisola of his acts in ordering and conducting the retreat"--Streeter Texas 853. Filosila was relieved of his command and stood trial for treason after the retreat; this book was written in a successful effort to clear his name. The following year, the Texan legislature had this work translated into English, and it became the first non-legal work ever printed in Texas.
