San Antonio was still very much part of the "Wild West" when this commission was issued. F.E. Rogers is here appointed "lawful Special Deputy Marshal, giving unto him full power and authority to execute all process." It is signed by the United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, Harrington Lee "Hal" Gosling. Three years later, Gosling was shot to death while escorting two bandits to trial.
