The final issue deals with slavery in federal territories, with a lengthy argument offered by Sam Houston. The original owner, Anthony Martin Branch (1824-1867), was a lawyer in Huntsville, TX who was then serving in the legislature. He later served in the Confederate congress, and as executor of Sam Houston's will.
