Additional Details

Just months before the start of the Texas Revolution, a colonist expresses his wish to make a permanent settlement in what became Bastrop County. The petition is made out under the official seal of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas, but it is addressed in English "To the Commissioner of Milam's Colony" and to R.M. Williamson as Milam's agent. His petition is followed by a deed to Whatley; the text describing the land's boundaries is lost.
