Additional Details

An early and scarce study of Royal life by Thailand's first photographer of the mausoleum housing King Mongkut's (Rama IV) body. An amateur astronomer and photographer, the monarch correctly calculated the time and place of a total eclipse of the sun, which occurred on August 18, 1868, pinpointing the remote, mosquito infested village where it could be seen. The King caught malaria there and died on October 18, 1868.
