An archive associated with the The Cameran Photographic Society in Edinburgh, Scotland, comprising 3 albums containing approximately 180 photographs by various members, and miscellaneous documents relating to the club's activities, including competitions.
The photographic albums span 20 plus years of the Society's existence and feature (largely) "en plein air" photographs by accomplished male and female amateur photographers. With prints of adorable animals, pastoral landscapes, handsome occupational scenes, lyrical seascapes, lovely portraits, and horticultural and architectural studies, which are represented in multiple techniques. Albumen, toned silver, untoned silver, platinum, and printing-out paper prints, the images ranging from 3 1/2x4 1/2 to 6 1/2x8 1/2 inches (8.9x11.4 to 16.5x21.6 cm.), mounted recto only one to 4 prints per leaf, each with the neatly block-lettered credit, caption, and date, in ink or pencil, below the image. Oblong small folios, red or green leatherette with gilt trim. 1894-1917
WITH--An illustrated ledger chock-a-block with financial, member- and guest-related information, and notes recording annual meetings. With handwritten and typewriten membership lists, technical observations, exhibition checklists, literature, and printed pamphlets associated with the Society, and 10 unmounted photographs (sorted in envelopes) that were apparently submitted to annual competitions.
