Additional Details

Beatrice Szanton (1908-1993) was the wife of the cartoonist Barney Tobey, whom she had met in high school. After a brief career in Hollywood, she attended art school and used her maiden name to avoid confusion with her prolific husband. Between 1959 and 1969 she contributed 11 covers to The New Yorker.
