(THE RAMONES)

The Loft Presents The Ramones.
Letterpress ticket in dark green ink on light green card stock. 587x984 mm, 2¼x3⅞ inches. 1978.

A rare, ephemeral remnant of an yet ungentrified Lower East Side in Manhattan. From the first evening of a four night benefit at CBGB to raise money for the medical bills of Johnny Blitz, a member of the Dead Boys, who had been stabbed. The line-up that evening featured Blondie, Derringer, The Dictators, the Ramones and others. May 4th, 1978 was also Tommy Ramone's last appearance as drummer with the band.

This invite/admission ticket was for a separate event that same evening at David Mancuso's legendary disco club, The Loft. As the venue was not known for printing invitations, this ticket is a scarce document linking disco culture and punk rock in New York in the 1970s.
