Additional Details

Billy Kersands (circa 1842-1915) was one of the leading African-Americans in the mostly white world of minstrelsy in the 1880s and 1890s. This uncaptioned lithograph emphasizes Kersands' unusually large mouth, one of his calling cards as a performer, in addition to his comedy routines and innovative dancing.
