Additional Details

Bil Baird and his wife, Cora, were most famous for creating "The Lonely Goatherd" marionette scene in the 1965 movie "The Sound of Music" but were already well-known in 1960s Greenwich Village. The 59 Barrow Street address purchased in 1964 served as their home, marionette theater, and filming studio. They attracted the city's best writers, composers, and puppeteers, and the top-notch live and television performances they produced influenced such fans as Jim Henson, whose company many of the Bairds' employees later joined.
