Additional Details

While the title derives from "Contes de ma Mère l'Oye" ("Mother Goose Tales") published by Charles Perrault in the 17th century, Erté created this set design for Maurice Ravel's orchestral adaptation and ballet of five Mother Goose tales, "La Mère l'Oie,"produced for the Opéra-Comique in 1948. The fourth of the five "children's pieces" for piano, his Beauty and the Beast is based upon the version of Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont.
