Watercolor, pen, ink, and wash on paper. Image measures 115x242 mm; 4 1/2x9 1/2 inches, on 9 3/4x11 3/4-inch sheet. Signed, captioned, and dated in visible lower margin; scene titled "Mollie and John / Act I" below matte; stamped "June 3, 1957" on verso. Framed. Provenance: Mielziner estate to Richard Stoddard to current owner.

Additional Details

Mielziner was scenery and lighting director for "Silent Night, Lonely Night," with Hugh Hardy as assistant scenic designer. The popular was directed by Peter Glenville, and starred Barbara Bel Geddes and Henry Fonda as the lead characters.
