Kerz (1912 - 1976) was a German emigré who enjoyed a successful career in lighting and scenic design on Broadway for three decades. He is best known for producing Eugene Ionesco's masterpiece of absurdist theater, Rhinoceros, in 1961, for which Zero Mostel won his first Tony Award. After his death in 1966, Kerz's widow Louise married the famous caricaturist, Al Hirschfeld.
