Additional Details

Toedteberg (1823-1909) was both an artist and collector. In December of 1903, the Anderson Auction Company of New York began a four-part sale of his collection including Rare Books of Theatrical History, Colored Drawings and Prints, Engraved Portraits and Views, Autograph Letters, Playbills, and Daguerreotypes. According to the catalogue introduction, the sheer volume of his collection was noted for its "contribution to the preservation and appreciation of the records of the American Stage. . . Every phase of dramatic history seems to have been covered, and no important character or event has been overlooked." This item was featured as lot 1659.
