Additional Details

On February 22, 1933, a dinner was held for Murice Schwartz, founder of the Yiddish Art Theatre, at Hotel Edison. The occasion marked the 200th performance of Yoshe Kalb, the play Schwartz adapted from I.J. Singer's novel and in which he also performed the role of Nyeveshe Rabbi. Over 1,000 luminaries were invited to the performance, including actor Edward G. Robinson, Rabbi Louis I. Newman and theatrical and film producer Daniel Frohman, who served as master of ceremonies.
