Cronau was an artist who travelled widely in America before publishing these scenes. Each plate is accompanied by a page of description or verse in German. Illustrations include scenes of Dakota and Yankton Indians in Minnesota; a ranch on the Rio Brazos; Idaho gold miners; a carriage driving through a tree in the Sierra Nevadas; the Florida coast; an Albuquerque street scene; Pike's Peak; and much more.
